November 1, 2008 was a memorable day for the Anthony H. Kruse Foundation. The CEO and Founder Mr. George Boedecker traveled to the city of La Paz, Mexico to attend a ribbon cutting ceremony honoring Mr. Boedecker for his generosity in funding a new Community Center. Three years ago, Boedecker collaborated with Youth Opportunities, Inc. (YO)—both Boulder, Colorado-based organizations—to construct a 10,800 square foot Community Resource Center and outdoor recreation and sports complex in the Arco Iris III colony, serving the southern part of the city of La Paz.
Attending the ceremony were thousands of low-income children, their families and local and state dignitaries who joined to thank and honor George Boedecker and to celebrate the grand opening of the BOE Aktion Park Community Center.
The goal was to create a site where families could gather for recreational, cultural, educational, artistic and civic events. With additional partners from local, state and federal government agencies, local contractor and developer DECOPE and local and foreign NGO organizations, the team effort resulted in a community center that will provide such services as health and nutrition programs, family workshops and public programs offered in other parts of the city. The sports complex features soccer, basketball and green areas, showers and instructional classrooms. YO will operate and administer the center, aided by state and city governments as well as undergraduate students from local universities.
As part of his remarks during the Center's grand opening, Narciso Agundez Montano, Governor of the State of La Paz, Baja California Sur, personally thanked Mr. Boedecker for his leadership and involvement, noting "The happiness of the children and the overall health of families is priceless. The BOE Aktion Park represents the opportunity for society to achieve these benefits. My government offers all the support required by our state agencies, including the education department, social services and sports authority".
