AHK Foundation visits Michoacan, Mexico to tour World Spark's project "Ninos de Guadalupe" | May 2008

The Anthony H. Kruse Foundation has added a new initiative through its partnership with World Spark, a non-profit corporation led by Michael Maslowsky. In 2003, Michael and his team were striving to apply their expertise in developing senior care facilities to meet the needs of children in Mexico.

World Spark's mission was to provide charitable goods and services to at-risk children, and to facilitate the betterment of the lives of children throughout the world. Upon learning about the "Ninos de Guadalupe" project, the Anthony H. Kruse Foundation became interested in supporting World Spark’s work with the children in Michoacan, Mexico.

In the spring of 2008, representatives from the Anthony H. Kruse Foundation got a first-hand look at the need and the work being done to improve the lives of children in Michoacan. "Ninos de Guadalupe" or "Children of Guadalupe" were programs designed to provide housing, care and education for children without families in the Michoacán community. This innovative project was designed to heal and empower children who could be tomorrow’s leaders in Mexico.

World Spark is not alone in this project. Their partnerships with child advocates, social workers, and community and religious leaders in Mexico create effective solutions to the residential and educational needs of homeless children. World Spark's efforts in Michoacán, one of Mexico’s poorest states, include a three-phase village in Los Trojes. Small residential cottages, with a live-in house parent, are being built to offer homeless children a sense of belonging and provide them with a family identity. Ultimately, this project, called the "Ninos de Guadalupe" village is designed to be home to more than 100 boys (ages 4-17) through a three phase program at its junior and senior campus.
