Established in 2007, Youth Opportunities, Inc. (YO) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) charitable organization that enhances, encourages and promotes the current and future well-being of children and youth in La Paz, Mexico and in Colorado by providing grants and community stewardship. Youth Opportunities Inc. was created as an initiative of George B. Boedecker, Jr., CEO and founder of the Boedecker Foundation. Thanks to generous grants from the Foundation, YO was able to evolve from a small community food service program in La Paz, Mexico to a nonprofit organization that brings a better quality of life to children and their communities The Youth Opportunities Foundation (YO), in cooperation with the La Paz, Baja California Sur, Mexico, state and municipal governments, selected non-profit providers; business and community volunteers have established a La Paz community partnership. Through this partnership they are constructing a 10,800 square feet Community Resource Center, and community outdoor recreation and sports complex, in a location convenient for residents of two La Paz neighbourhoods (colonias): Laguna Azul, and Marquez de Leon. The Community Resource Center and Sports Complex would find it beneficial to exist together at the same site. Both facilities provide exposure for human development and provide mutually compatible, shared services. It is beneficial to the communities to provide community and sports/recreation services in a "one stop shop" location. These two facilities will provide a hub for family-centered network services. The goals and objectives of this project are to positively affect the quality of life for area residents by providing, together, networked human services, along with sports/recreational opportunities in a location where there is a demonstrated need. The partnership with a community center concept is designed to ensure the financial sustainability of both, mutually inclusive, programs.
The Boedecker Foundation supports Youth Opportunities Inc's mission and vision to provide health, sports and recreation, human services, education, arts and humanities, and civic and community initiatives.
