The Colorado Juvenile Council (CJC) originally was formed in 1963 by a group of professionals from Juvenile Probation, Juvenile Parole and the Department of Institutions. Over the years, CJC has evolved to include members from virtually every discipline of juvenile services throughout Colorado. Membership now includes representatives from Law Enforcement, Social Services, Probation, Parole, Mental Health, Courts (Judges and Attorneys), Education, Youth Corrections, Residential Childcare, and Youth Alternative programs.
CJC's state-wide volunteer board consists of youth serving professional who are in support the Colorado Juvenile Council's mission. The Colorado Juvenile Council is not funded by any sole sources, Federal or State funding and relies on donations to help support the Conference and banquet.
CJC's goal is to bring professionals from these entities together to network and share information to better serve Colorado youth. In addition, CJC has a history of involvement in youth and juvenile legislation that affects how we provide treatment to the juvenile population. CJC develops and presents regional workshops each year, designed to bring current issues and information to the professionals dealing with youth on a daily basis. Recent workshop topics have focused on bullying, teen suicide, raves and designer drugs, interpreting / utilizing psychological evaluations, and youth violence.
